Flights from Brisbane to Ahmedabad

• Via Singapore. Singapore Airlines has flown Singapore to Ahmedabad, which can make for a tidy one-stop trip from BNE.
• Via the Gulf. Emirates through Dubai and Qatar Airways through Doha both serve Ahmedabad and offer frequent connections.
• Via Mumbai or Delhi. Fly into one of the big gateways, then take an Air India or IndiGo domestic flight to AMD. This adds a step but opens up more fare choices.

Brisbane's Gujarati community is a big part of the reason we book so many AMD trips. Navratri in September or October is the headline festival, with nine nights of garba, and it often lands close to Queensland's spring school holidays. Diwali and the Gujarati New Year follow soon after in October or November. In January, Uttarayan (the kite festival around 14 January) coincides with Queensland's summer break, which is why fares into Ahmedabad climb over that month.

Wedding season through the cooler months keeps demand high as well. If you need to be there for a specific event, book early.

Plenty of our AMD customers live outside Brisbane itself, on the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, in Ipswich or out towards Toowoomba. For an international departure, plan to reach the international terminal around three hours before your flight. Airtrain runs from the city and from Gold Coast rail lines, and it also links the domestic and international terminals, which are separate buildings some distance apart.

If you are flying in from regional Queensland on a domestic flight first, try to have that sector on the same booking as your international flights. Your bags can then be checked through, and the airline is responsible for rebooking you if the first flight runs late. Sometimes. If your family is in south Gujarat, around Surat or Valsad, a flight into Mumbai followed by a road or rail journey north can work well. For Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Saurashtra and Kutch, flying straight into AMD usually saves a lot of time on the ground. We are happy to price both. Ahmedabad's airport sits in the north of the city, fairly close to the centre by Indian standards. It is also the nearest international airport for Gandhinagar. Check which terminal your flight uses, as international and domestic services have used separate terminals. Prepaid taxis and app-based rides are available, and many families simply arrange for a relative to collect them.

Many Gulf and Singapore flights reach Ahmedabad late at night or in the early morning. Temperatures in April and May regularly pass 40 degrees, so arriving in the cooler part of the day has its benefits in summer. If you have a domestic connection onward from AMD, leave time to collect your bags and clear customs first, as you do this at your first point of entry in India.

For many travellers AMD is not the final stop. Vadodara and Anand are a comfortable road trip south on the expressway. Rajkot, Bhavnagar, Jamnagar and Bhuj have their own domestic airports with flights mainly from Mumbai or Delhi, so for Saurashtra or Kutch it is worth checking whether a domestic flight into a closer airport saves you a long drive from Ahmedabad.

On the way home, suitcases from Gujarat are often full of snacks, sweets and spices. Australian biosecurity is strict, so declare all food on your incoming passenger card. Many packaged items are allowed after inspection, but some goods, such as certain seeds and dairy products, may be refused.
